Self Promotion
I'm so glad to have finally finished Part III of the Clockwork series. Procrastination is a nasty habit--I can't believe how long that was on the backburner. Just entire weeks where I'd say to myself "I'll do it" and then I don't get any shit done or I decide to completely re-do it. In the end, it took so long because I had too many choices--what stocks to breakdown, what pictures to include, what dialogue to create and when, blah blah blah. In the end, my desire to just push it out finally won out and it's done.
After completing the Clockwork series, I felt a weird compulsion to again share my work on every platform. I had kinda given up on that because I hate self-promotion. I try to get people to read my blog by posting all over the internet and it's just an icky process. I've given up the dream of ever making this blog super popular and monetizing it... yet here I am again.
The only platform that is clearly worth my time is Twitter. I get a good hit rate there and all it takes is one tweet. A couple highly followed accounts--FlowHorse and GoshawkTrades--always re-tweet me. Thank you for making life easier.
Reddit is in second place according to site's internal metrics. It was initially great when I did an AMA on Prop Trader Series but it got too annoying for many reasons:
- Every sub hates self-promotion of outside content and iron-fisted mods just assume you're a scammer/course seller 100% of the time
- Too many random non-sequitur comments from bot accounts
- Too many negative comments of the "fake and gay" variety from terminally online super posters of r/WSB
I only posted on R/Trading because all the other subs are too strict. It just takes too much effort to sneak through with outside content and when you're successful to bypass the mods, you have to comment a bit to drum up the initial attention and get the algo to highlight your thread. Commenting with bots and critics sucks. The thread has a bunch of annoying comments and after an hour of responses, I've now muted the thread and I never want to see it again. My pageviews suggest the thread is doing the trick I guess.
Instagram -- too hard to get followers unless I start promoting lifestyle porn. I'm simply not going to do that.
LinkedIn -- seems OK but only after I built a huge network of 500+ people. I just post one link and maybe get 2-3 likes at most but there are some under-the-radar prop traders who stay off twitter who pick up my content from here, which is nice.
Facebook -- impossible and useless. It's all spam groups. This has been eliminated.
Forums like EliteTrader and Trade2win -- internet forums are kinda dead and don't really get you a big view count push but since I have years-old threads on both of them, I just update them and that's that. WallStreetOasis banned me.
Stocktwits -- full of degens with the attention span of a pigeon. I've stopped trying here.
Should I add BlueSky or Threads? Ugh
This is why people pay for a social media manager I guess. Anyone want to my social media manager for a super cheap rate?
