Sandwich Review in NYC #31 (Cafe D'avignon)
Daycare's closed today so I have the entire day with my daughter. I have a short break to myself right now so I'm spending it writing it here.
First we went to Cafe D'Avignon for a Black Forest Ham & Sea Salt Butter sandwich. Very simple. For a pre-made sandwich, it's quite good. They use an expensive rich butter, which is key. Make sure to heat up the bread to make it soft.
Rating: 3/4.
Private market stuff A few things I'm pursuing or considering:
Stripe -- got an offer to buy Stripe at $85 bil valuation. If it was going to IPO tomorrow, I'd buy it. Since the IPO timeline is unclear, I have to know what I'm owning so I'm still researching it. I like going to youtube and watching a quick 5-10 minute video about these successful megacorns.
Figure AI -- I've been chasing this one since November. My desire for some humanoid robotics exposure stems from Chris Camillo's thesis that the sector's ChatGpt moment is right around the corner. Link here It's rumored they're going to blow the roof off their next raise... somewhere in the $10-20 billion range (I even heard one say $30!?). It might be too late for me to get in a reasonable price and I probably won't chase a raise.
Open AI -- a contact said there's an investor with liquidity crunch who wants to sell it a 5% premium to the $150b price he paid. The raise with SoftBank pushes it to $240b so it's at a discount. Ehhh... I passed on OpenAI because I didn't think I was smart enough to understand it well enough, probably won't change my mind. A discount is just nice on paper, the IPO still seems a million years away.
