Sandwich Review in NYC #17 (Alidoro)
I'm trying not to go to places I have been to in the past. But it's time to review Alidoro--possibly the first place to start Pete's Sandwichaissance over a year ago when they installed a popup shop in the Dekalb Market, which is basically my backyard. When I take friends or family to Dekalb--which is overwhelming with over 20 eateries--I now recommend Alidoro first.
They have an insane lineup of sandwiches and I don't think I've been disappointed even once... well maybe just once, but it was still solid. My least favorite was actually their Michelangelo, which was recommended by Pete Wells in the NYT Times 57 sandwiches that define NYC. I might have given them a 3 in an older post as I was remembering this as the last sandwich I had. I've since corrected it.
My favorites: the Alidoro, the Italian Cheesesteak, and today's Il Sole--which is hot sopressata, fresh mozzarella, #truffle cream, hot pepper jam and arugula.
It reminds of me of why I liked the Marie Antoinette sandwich at the French joint, even though they're very different. It hits multiple intersections of flavor goodness--creaminess, sweet and spicy, savory/saltiness. They execute with elite ingredients. 4/4.
